MEC introduces contractor to build Qabango Bridge

The bridge will allow community members to access schools, healthcare facilities and the town

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety & Liaison Sipho Hlomuka officially handed over the contractor that will build the D489 Qabango Bridge in Cornfields.

The MEC was accompanied by Ward 10 Cllr Edith Lite, Ward 19 Cllr Xaba and Inkosi Sithole.

Addressing the Cornfields community, Hlomuka complimented Cllr Xaba for putting pressure on him about the Qabango Bridge, saying that if it was not for him, he wouldn’t have visited the area.

Hlomuka said that by constructing the bridge, they are finishing the job started by former Department of Transport MEC Willies Mchunu. “The last time I visited the area, it was when we came to campaign for the ANC and I remember this road was a gravel road.”

The contractor is Zamile Trading.

Hlomuka urged the community to work with them and not steal their materials so that the project can be completed timeously, as it is for the benefit of the people living in the area.

The project will cost R49 million.
