Helping hand for the community
The team brought goodwill to residents in the kwaBhekuzulu / Draycott areas
Giving back to the community was on the agenda for the stakeholders involved in the Mandela Day programme in the kwaBhekuzulu / Draycott area on July 18.
Representatives from civil society, the youth sector, Department of Correctional Services, Estcourt police and Ward 6 Councillor Bongimusa Mshengu partnered up to make the day an unforgettable one for the people they visited.

Estcourt police station Youth Desk secretary Nomandla Mbatha explained that the theme for the day was ‘giving back to our needy community’.
“Firstly, we kicked off the day by painting a newly-built crèche called Snethemba Educare Centre. The SAPS, with the assistance of the Al-Imdaad Foundation, donated clothes, personal care products and blankets, and were able to distribute these items on the day,” she said.
During their visit to a home in kwaHadebe, the group handed over blankets to the four children of the household to keep them warm this winter.
They then visited Sipho Hadebe, who also lives in kwaHadebe.
This elderly man is wheelchair-bound and was grateful for the items he received.
“The third home we visited was in kwaMkhize, where we met Sibongiseni Mkhize (who also struggles with a disability). We donated blankets and hygiene products. The last home we visited was in kwaMngadi, where we met a granny aged 105 who lives alone. She received blankets, clothes and hygiene products,” concluded Ms Mbatha.
