DA condemns vicious attack on school boy (11)
The incident, which left the boy and his family traumatised, was described as ‘dastardly’ by the DA KZN spokesperson for education, Dr Imran Keeka.
A civil case has been opened against two Osizweni police officers and a teacher from Enzimeni Primary in the Dry Cut area following the beating of an 11-year old boy after he allegedly misplaced a teacher’s car keys.
A furious Dr Imran Keeka, DA spokesperson for education in KZN, commented that ‘this was an act of pure abuse of power, assault and thuggery.’
Dr Keeka stated that he would be contacting MEC for Education in Kwazulu Natal, Mbali Frazer, who he hopes will ensure that the matter is thoroughly investigated.
“Action should be taken against the educator. What work does a teacher have to treat this young child like a slave?” questioned Dr Keeka.
After the severe beating and traumatising events, which occurred on that fateful day, Dr Keeka recommended that the child be provided with counselling and healthcare support.
The child’s parents will be meeting with the National Department of Education later this week.
An internal investigation of the two police officers is underway. The investigating officer could not be reached for comment .
