Water woes continue for Wasbank residents

The community has been without water for over 10 days and they say that no tankers have been dispatched by Umzinyathi District Municipality (UDM).

Residents in Wasbank are still suffering with ‘dry taps’ as their water crisis continues. The community has been without water for over 10 days and they say that no tankers have been dispatched by Umzinyathi District Municipality (UDM). In September, residents took to the streets and protested, blocking off the Dundee/Wasbank road and the R602 from Glencoe to Wasbank. A committee was also formed and a meeting held with UDM, where municipal officials explained that the reason for the water outages was that the Tayside Raw Water Abstraction Plant is only operating with one pump delivering only 300 cubic metres per hour.
At the meeting, it was also stated that the raw water supply to the Biggarsberg Water Treatment Plant was severely depleted, which led to the closure of the main water supply line from Glencoe to Wasbank.
