FAKE NEWS: There is no ‘critically ill baby dumped’ in Estcourt

The police and hospital have no knowledge of a report of a dumped baby

A social media post making the rounds on Facebook today (December 6) is fake.

The poster, whose account is an obvious fake one, alleges that a “critically ill baby was dumped” at a gate of a home in Estcourt and calls on Facebook users “flood your feed” in an effort to locate the child’s parents.

Estcourt Hospital public relations officer Zandile Gamede has confirmed that no reports of an abandoned child have been received.

According to the police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan, the Estcourt Visible Policing Commander has no knowledge of a report of this nature.

The Estcourt News has tried to reach out to the poster, unfortunately there has been no response yet.
