A mass shooting in the Dannhauser area on New Year’s Eve left two people dead and five injured.
The incident occurred at about 15 minutes after midnight at SBS White House Tavern in Annieville when a female patron allegedly rejected the advances of a would-be suitor.
According to investigating officer, Sergeant Sibusiso Kunene of the Amajuba District Detectives Unit, Sanele Hadebe, an IT specialist who resides in Johannesburg, is believed to have ‘proposed his love’ to Annieville resident, Thulisile Madlala, moments before commotion erupted.
Madlala’s boyfriend, Xolani Qwabe (33), intervened demanding that Hadebe release his girlfriend and is said to have pushed Hadebe away from Madlala. It was at this point that Hadebe allegedly drew a gun and opened fire inside the tavern.
Kunene divulged that Thulisile Madlala claimed Hadebe was a stranger to her and she has never seen him before this incident.
Hadebe was arrested later that same morning at his family’s homestead. He has since appeared in the Dannhauser Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, January 10, and is scheduled to make a bail application on January 17.
