Newcastle Mall extends support to flood victims

Heavy rains last month caused flooding in Newcastle. Not only were residents evacuated, but many lost all their belongings or business infrastructure.

Newcastle Mall has stepped in to assist. The Mall is committed to the community and the management team visited the homes of residents affected by the flooding to understand how best to provide support.

Newcastle Mall moved swiftly to donate toiletries and groceries to the volunteer group, who distributed these to the victims as an initial measure to help provide relief, while families were displaced.

Newcastle Mall shopping vouchers were recently distributed to homes in the area in collaboration with the Newcastle Residents Forum, allowing affected families to choose which items will best help them rebuild their lives.

Most of these recipients had lost the entire contents of their homes due to the extensive water damage. Additionally, the centre’s Pick n Pay donated groceries to selected families.

Seeing the floods take place was honestly frightening and caused trauma to the entire Newcastle area,” said Beulah Rajkumar, marketing manager of Newcastle Mall.
