EFF National Shutdown raises safety concerns
Newcastle residents are being assured that security forces are on high alert with the EFF’s national shutdown scheduled for March 20.
The EFF has informed the nation through various media outlets of their intention to close all businesses and roads in protest of load shedding and to demand President Cyril Ramaphosa’s resignation.
Even though EFF leader Julius Malema has stated that there will be no violence, the 2021 July riots are still fresh in people’s mind raising concern over the safety of businesses and residents as a whole
The Newcastle community has been informed that all security forces, including the SAPS, the Community Policing Forum, and various security firms, are on high alert.
All relevant role players and stakeholders held a meeting to come up with a strategy to ensure the safety of all residents and businesses.
No official reports have been received regarding any planned protests in the Newcastle, Dannhauser and Utrecht area.
