High Court rules against Alfred Duma special council meeting
It was ruled that the decision by the MEC to convene the meeting was inconsistent with the constitution

The Alfred Duma Local Municipality special council meeting, which was set to take place tomorrow (Thursday, March 30), was interdicted by the Pietermaritzburg High Court today (March 29).
The meeting was convened by the Department of Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (CoGTA).

This decision comes after the IFP-led Alfred Duma Local Municipality sought an interdict against this council sitting.
The court ruled that the decision by the MEC to call, convene and chair the council meeting be set aside, as it is inconsistent with the constitution and invalid. And that the ruling should serve as an interdict against the MEC and CoGTA from attempting to call any further council meetings in this regard.
