Municipal manager addresses service delivery, electricity and water concerns around town
The delegation began their visit at the Twee Fountain pump station in response to a complaint detailing operational issues affecting the pump station:
In an effort to speed up service delivery, Municipal Manager Zamani Mcineka and the newly formed service delivery task team began their oversight programme on April 13 by visiting various projects across Newcastle with the goal of inspecting progress and resolving service delivery complaints.
According to the municipality’s communications department, the task team has been assigned with resolving issues and providing long-term solutions to on-going service delivery issues.
The delegation started their visit at the Twee Fountain pump station in response to a complaint lodged by residents, through the Municipal Consumer Care Centre, who had detailed operational issues affecting the pump station over the previous two years.
In their response, the electrical department, led by Acting Manager Mdu Zwane, reported that the pumps were found to be operational, with the ‘only challenge experienced by the installed programme that gets disrupted by load shedding, resulting in the loss of memory, which affects the pump and causes an overflow.
As a short-term fix, the electrical department will install a ripple relay system on the panel, allowing electricity to reach the pump station and automatically restart after load shedding.
The municipal manager also visited Ward 5 to assess the progress of the project that is expected to resolve the water crisis in this Ward.
