Estcourt Animal Shelter pays tribute to David McFie
His approach made it possible for hundreds of dogs and cats to be adopted and homed
We, at the Estcourt Animal Shelter, would like to convey our sincerest condolences to the McFie family on the sad passing of David.
Dave, as he was known to us, established the shelter in 2014 as a means to assist pets and their owners in Estcourt and its outlying areas when the SPCA closed its doors.
He took on this mammoth task with such enthusiasm that he managed to recruit a devoted, like-minded group of volunteers to work together to make his vision a reality.
His focus was to give all animal lovers, irrespective of social and financial background, the opportunity to own a pet; and made it policy that no animal would be homed without the necessary vaccinations and sterilisation.
His approach made it possible for hundreds of dogs and cats to be adopted and homed in the knowledge that they were safely covered against dreaded illness or unwanted pregnancies.
His passion for animal welfare has been the driving force behind each one of us and we will endeavour to continue to maintain his legacy to the very best of our ability.
