Education in the deep rural area of Sahlumbe in Weenen is set for a boost.
This was announced by KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education Mbali Frazer when she met with Inkosi Mthembu on June 1.
The purpose was to discuss the latest developments regarding the local traditional leadership’s request for the construction of a new high school in Sahlumbe.
Inkosi Mthembu and the community had contacted the KZN Department of Education, seeking the establishment of a high school in their area. Currently, Sahlumbe Secondary School is the only high school in the area and is facing challenges due to overcrowding caused by increasing demand.
During the meeting, MEC Frazer engaged with Inkosi Mthembu and his delegation from the Mthembu Royal House, where she addressed issues related to the construction of the state-of[1]the-art Inkosi Mkhuphukeli Secondary School.
Following the discussions, MEC Frazer announced that the construction of Inkosi Mkhuphukeli Secondary School will commence on June 15, 2023.
