Colleagues bid farewell to former teacher

Mrs Mchunu served the Department of Education for the past 41 years

A farewell function was held in honour of Mrs Lindiwe Mchunu recently. Mrs Mchunu’s colleagues bade farewell to her during a glamorous surprise party at Thandana / Naunton’s Guest House.

She began her career as a teacher in January 1982 at Khombindlela High School in Empangeni, Zululand region. She then moved to Vryheid in 1984, also as a teacher at Ikhethelo Secondary School, where she stayed for two years before relocating to Ladysmith in January 1986. She was a teacher at Emhlwaneni and later promoted to head of department at Ingula High School, a position she held between 1987 and 1989.

She went on to work as a junior lecturer at the Ezakheni College of Education and was promoted to senior lecturer in 1992. In the year 2000, she started at the Ladysmith Region Offices as a subject advisor for the Foundation Phase. Then, in 2006, Mchunu was promoted to deputy chief education specialist and remained in this position until May 31, 2023.

She was overwhelmed by the show of emotion from her colleagues and thanked them all heartily for their support over the 41 years she spent in the arena of education.
