College hosts workshop on sexual harassment, bullying and substance abuse
Majuba TVET College conducted a comprehensive workshop to address critical workplace issues head-on.
The college conducted a workshop on sexual harassment, bullying, and substance abuse at its ITB Campus hall on Monday (August 7).
The two-day workshop (from August 7-8), under the theme” Majuba TVET College contributes towards the fight against Gender-Based Violence through creating an equitable workplace for staff” aimed to equip employees and management alike with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to create a safe, supportive, and thriving workplace.
“People are going through a lot these days and they react differently things depending on their circumstances. When faced with challenges of this nature, some resort to abuse drugs and substances,” said Majuba TVET College principal S.J. Mlotshwa.
Facilitators took the group through presentations and discussions that focused on mental health specifically, sexual harassment, substance abuse and bullying as well as capacitating managers on what to do when faced with such issues.
Dr. Mnguni, the College’s Psychologist, kicked off the presentations by discussing the importance of mental health, followed by Rebecca Sikhosana, who spoke about substance abuse and misuse, and Sesi Mahlobongoane, who spoke about sexual harassment and bullying in the workplace.
The first day’s programme concluded with a comprehensive discussion of the next steps, including the colleges’ plans for addressing the workplace issues raised in the workshop.
