MEC disappointed at slow progress of hospital upgrade
The oversight visit by MEC of Public Works and Human Settlements Sipho Nkosi to Newcastle Hospital revealed slow progress on multimillion-rand projects aimed at upgrading the facility.
MEC of Human Settlements and Public Works, Sipho Nkosi, issued the warning after visiting the site last Tuesday as part of ‘Operation Siyahlola’ to ensure that projects initiated to improve healthcare and give the hospital a much-needed architectural facelift are on track.
The MEC met with all stakeholders, including contractors, project managers, and hospital officials, to get a complete picture of the work being done.
Acting Hospital CEO Jabu Duze praised the contractors ‘for their transparency and willingness to always communicate, but expressing frustration with project setbacks that negatively affect their working environment.’
“Having projects running in a live institution is a difficult challenge, but we recognise that changes must be made in order to keep up with time,” she said.
The MEC used the opportunity to congratulate the contractors who completed the work while also expressing his displeasure with the overall progress of the renovations.
