Newly-elected councillor for Ward 8

Elaine Rodway was elected as the new councillor for Ward 8 under the IFP banner

A by-election was held in Ward 8 last week, where the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) emerged with 505 votes out of a total of 1085 votes cast. In a statement, the party expressed its sincere appreciation to every individual who voted in support of the IFP and also congratulated their candidate. Elaine Rodway was elected as the new councillor for Ward 8 under the IFP banner.
“We congratulate Cllr Elaine Rodway on her well-deserved victory and urge her to emulate the exemplary leadership of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi by serving the people of Abaqulusi with humility and dedication. We also wish to thank the mayor, deputy mayor and speaker of Abaqulusi Municipality, as well as IFP district chairperson Mr Khumalo for their support and dedication to improving the lives of our people.”

Councillor Rodway introduced herself by saying, “We cannot move forward without a strong foundation to build on. Steady, reliable basic services are at the core of this foundation. The diversity of Ward 8’s demographic requires an in-depth understanding of the needs of each community and a realistic approach to ensuring that these needs are met efficiently. Regardless of our sociological differences, our primary basic needs remain the same: water, sanitation, electricity and safety.
“My goal is to address the weaknesses within our current basic service delivery protocols and strengthen the foundation of our communities, thereby providing a platform for prosperity throughout Ward 8. Without basic services, local businesses cannot thrive, which has a direct impact on our economy and employment opportunities. By creating an environment for business owners and entrepreneurs to succeed, we open the doors for job creation.
“I will advocate for community engagement within our municipal structures and be your voice in the campaign for clear and open lines of communication between leadership and the public regarding community issues that affect us all. We must never be without a voice in matters pertaining to good governance and service delivery.”
