Driver killed as car overturns
Police on scene said the exact cause of the crash is not clear at this stage
The driver of a red Renault Cleo was killed in an accident on the R103 near Apex Boutique Hotel yesterday afternoon (February 28).
According to an eyewitness, “The car tried to overtake a VW Polo that was travelling in the same direction. I think he lost control when he saw another vehicle coming in the opposite direction. He tried to avoid that car by getting back into his lane and that’s when the car rolled.”
The deceased was found under the car by paramedics, who explained that there was nothing they could do to save his life as he had already passed away before their arrival.
It is alleged that the deceased worked in Estcourt and was travelling back home to Ladysmith.

Speaking to the Estcourt News, the shocked driver of the Polo said he is glad to be alive. ‘’I don’t know where this car came from, because the last time I checked, there was no car behind me. Suddenly I saw the car overtake and then it overturned in front of me.”
SAPS, traffic police and paramedics responded.
The driver of the Renault was declared dead at the scene.
