Determined Shane bounces back to help his community

Using his qualifications as a psychologist, counsellor, life coach, and also a parapsychologist, Shane says he has maintained 'a remarkable connection' with learners, directing them on the correct pathway.

Shane Manilal is a Newcastle resident whose life story exemplifies tenacity and willpower.

Known as the One Blood Biker, Shane has experienced a staggering 20 motorcycle accidents, 11 car accidents, and four serious mountain bike accidents.

The most severe of these was a motorcycle crash which left him completely paralysed on his right side with doctors telling him he will not walk again.

A dedicated former teacher, he had to leave the profession as the crash also left his right hand disabled – but showing sheer doggedness, Shane defied all odds by walking again.

He credits his resilience and strength to his strong belief that life should be lived each day as though it was the last day.

Shane boasts three degrees, five diplomas, and a SACE certificate. In addition, he is a published author has been interviewed by national media, and has been a guest on two television talk shows (SABC 3 Talk in 2012 and Sadhana in 2021.)

Now, just living around the block from the Advertiser on Asnika Crescent, Shane is taking care of his mom, Sheala, and wants to dedicate his time to helping people, as he did at The Grey Goose Lodge in 2017, prior to suffering another motorcycle crash.

“Knowing that people are these days stressed out and that kids are losing focus at school, Connie Hariram (DA Ward Councillor) and Ally Hoosen (Caretaker at the Old War Room) have kindly given me sace in the Ward 3 war room where I counsel those who need it.
