Steadville residents angry about power cuts

Last night (April 11), angry residents blocked Mandela Drive in Steadville with rocks to show their discontent

The ward councillors for Ward 9, 10 and 21 have raised concerns about Alfred Duma Local Municipality’s decision to place only their areas under load-reduction.

Cllr Xolani Mngadi says that he, Cllr Sandile Zikalala and Cllr Nathi Sithole were not notified of the decision and they will be (collectively) writing to the municipal manager to seek clarity on the matter.

The municipality issued a notice on Wednesday (April 10), saying that residents of the area – that includes Steadville, Tsakane, Thembalihle and Umbulwane – are angry at Alfred Duma Local Municipality after the municipality introduced power cuts.

According to the municipality, the affected area will experience load-reduction every day between 18:00 and 21:00, starting from the day the notice was issued until further notice.
