Protests along Helpmekaar Road for third night in a row

Selective load-shedding is to blame

Rocks and burning tyres were placed along Helpmekaar Road and the Pieters bypass by residents of Tsakane and Steadville tonight (April 17), the third night in a row.

This was done as residents protest against the regular electricity load-shedding in the area, which they blame on Alfred Duma Local Municipality.

Just before 9pm, the protesters had dispersed and a single lane pathway through the rocks and stones had been cleared.

Only a handful of cars risked travelling on the road after dark.

So far, the protests have been limited to the hours of the selected load-shedding (6pm to 9pm), when Alfred Duma Local Municipality cuts power to the area.
