Senior Citizens Club holds successful midweek meeting

The members were told to be vigilant, especially when they are alone at home

The Estcourt Senior Citizens Club held a meeting at Forderville Library today (May 22).

The club members spoke about plans that are in the pipeline and upcoming events, such as trips and celebrating members’ birthdays.

The members discussed safety precautions for the alleged swine flu and Covid-19 outbreaks, and were also briefed about crime following recent incidents in Estcourt. Some of these safety measures, especially when alone at home, include: locking gates and doors; not allowing anyone you don’t know to enter your yard; and if you have someone working for you in the yard, make sure it is someone you know or have information about.

The senior citizens were furthermore advised to be vigilant when using ATMs. They were told not to go to an ATM alone, but rather find someone to escort them, or go when it’s busy because it’s not easy for criminals to rob you when there are lots of people around. Alternatively, the members were told they can withdraw money from shops, which is a safer option.

The club will not have a meeting next week due to the elections that will be held that day; the next meeting will be on June 5.
