uThukela advises residents to boil water in some areas

Affected areas include Colenso, Winterton and Bergville

uThukela District Municipality advises all residents of Colenso, Winterton and Bergville to boil their tap water before drinking it.

This follows traces of E.coli being found in water from the Colenso and Bergville Water Treatment Plants.

The district municipality is closely monitoring the water quality following the discovery of numerous dead fish in the Bergville Canal.

The discovery of E.coli comes after internal laboratory tests were conducted by uThukela on Monday (July 29).

This ‘boil water alert’ will stay in effect until uThukela is confident that there is no longer a public health concern.

Regular updates will be provided as they continue to monitor the situation.
