Al-Imdaad helps Fire Department to extinguish blaze

Thick black smoke billowed up into the air and could be seen from a distance

Firefighters rushed to the industrial area yesterday (September 10) to extinguish a raging fire.

The fire had allegedly been lit by a group of men near the river, but soon got out of control due to windy conditions. The blaze grew in strength after entering a defunct trucking yard, where numerous discarded tyres caught alight.

The Al-Imdaad Foundation responded to support the Estcourt Fire Department in their efforts.

When Al-Imdaad became aware of the fire, they dispatched their 5000-litre tanker and 2500-litre water trailer to help battle the blaze. The tanker helped to refill the Fire Department’s 1000-litre truck, as well as combat the central flank of the inferno.

A co-ordinated effort – where the Fire Department prevented the leftward spread of the fire onto a neighbouring property and the Al-Imdaad Foundation controlled the spread of the fire within the truck yard – led to the successful extinguishing of the flames. The Umtshezi Fire Protection Association also dispatched a team to the site with their 1000-litre water tank to help where they could.

Al-Imdaad Foundation water projects co-ordinator Huzaifa Ismail said, “Praise to the Almighty, as our co-ordinated effort with the Fire Department and Umtshezi Fire Protection Association was able to stop the fire from spreading to neighbouring industries.”
