Osizweni police arrest suspect for having an illegal firearm
An intelligence-driven and multi-disciplinary operation comprising the Osizweni SAPS Crime Prevention members and the Amajuba District Task Team led to the successful arrest of a suspect who was in possession of an illegal firearm on October 30.
Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications Department said police received a tip-off of a housebreaking and theft case at a residence in Section E, Osizweni, which led law enforcement officers to conduct a search at the identified homestead.
“During the search, police recovered a black Z88 9mm pistol, valued at approximately R18 000. They also recovered an empty magazine,” she said.
A 27-year-old suspect who could not account for how the firearm came into his possession was arrested at the scene for the illegal firearm.
He appeared in the Madadeni magistrate’s court on Thursday, October 31, facing charges related to the unlawful possession of the firearm.
