20 year sentence handed to Elias Mabele’s murderers
The Newcastle Regional Court recently handed down a 20 year sentence to the two men, who were found guilty of the 2021 robbery and brutal murder of Elias Mabele.
According to Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications Officer, Constable N.M Langa, the crime, occurred on December 27, 2021, when Zakhele Mxolisi Hlatshwayo and Siphesihle Vumani Ngubeni intended on robbing Elias, who was a loan shark at the time.
“Gaining entry to his room, the men attacked the victim, stabbing him 12 times and leaving him fatally wounded,” said Langa.
After a meticulous investigation led by Sergeant Z.M. Mthembu, the two accused were found guilty of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances and received 20 years behind bars for their crimes.
Brigadier Vassie Naidoo saluted Sergeant Mthembu’s dedication which ensured justice was served.
