The future is bright for Amajuba District top student
Kwandokuhle achieved an impressive eight distinctions with an outstanding 94.5% overall grade average.

Top achiever in the Amajuba District, Kwandokuhle Mhlungu, is still riding high after the release of the matric results last week.
The Phendukani High School learner was among the province’s top students who gathered at the Durban ICC to celebrate the Class of 2024 National Senior Certificate results.
Reflecting on her achievements, Kwandokuhle beams with pride over what she has accomplished.
“Going to the ICC Provincial Awards was unbelievable. For the first time in my life, I felt like I had done something right. Seeing the happiness on my mother’s face was out of this world.”
However, it’s not just her exceptional results that are inspiring but also the remarkable determination she showed along the way.
Her road to success was not without challenges. Kwandokuhle credits her financial struggles as motivation to focus and work hard to create a better life for her family. “Experiencing financial problems from a young age pushed me to work hard so that I can give my family what they call the ‘soft life’.
“I set clear goals for myself because I knew that’s what I needed to do to achieve my dream of becoming a doctor,” she told the Advertiser.
Kwandokuhle also faced significant hurdles in Physical Science – a subject that posed a major challenge for her. She overcame this by joining extra online classes and seeking additional help from her teacher.
“My teachers supported me in every way, – even going the extra mile to support me financially and motivate me. They truly feel like family,” she beamed.
Kwandokuhle was honored by the town and district at the Matric Excellence Awards hosted by the Newcastle Municipality at the Black Rock Casino on Wednesday (January 22).
Looking ahead, Kwandokuhle is excited about the next chapter in her journey.
“I will be studying Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Cape Town. I want to be a cardiothoracic surgeon and a rich and successful businesswoman,” she enthused.
The Newcastle Advertiser wishes Kwandokuhle all the best in her future endeavors.
