Taxi boss’s killer gets life in prison

Mxolisi Buthelezi (40) was handed down three life sentences after being found guilty on three counts of murder. The triple murder was committed at Zwelisha, Nondweni, on May 2, 2022.
Buthelezi was already awaiting trial on cases of rape, kidnapping and murder when detectives linked him to the Nondweni triple murder. Detectives were investigating a separate murder case in which Buthelezi was a suspect when they made a breakthrough in the Nondweni triple murder, linking him to these killings as well. Buthelezi shot taxi owner Malusi Mabaso and his two friends, Mlungisi Skhankhane and a man only known as Themba. Mabaso and Skhankhane died at the scene, while Themba later died in hospital. Buthelezi made his initial court appearances in the Nquthu Magistrate’s Court and the matter was later transferred to the Pietermaritzburg High Court for trial, where he was found guilty on all three counts of murder.
The hefty sentence was handed down by the Pietermaritzburg High Court on February 11.
