Newcastle’s Podcast Champions aim for the stars
The 034 Issues Podcast is a platform dedicated to showcasing local talent, telling inspiring stories, and celebrating unsung heroes.
Founded by dynamic hosts BOY NBN and Master C Gplat, the podcast — named after Newcastle’s telephone area code — is living proof that big dreams don’t need a big city to thrive.
With their dedicated team, Ntandokazi Shabangu, Mpume Kubheka, Thando Zungu, Prince Mdluli, and Sandile Khanyile, the group has built a show that resonates deeply with listeners across Newcastle and beyond.
Launched in 2021, the podcast is now in its fourth season and is available on Spotify and YouTube. Born and raised in Newcastle, the hosts have witnessed first-hand the abundance of talent in the area – talent that often goes underappreciated.
Each episode highlights local musicians, entrepreneurs, athletes, and community leaders who have carved out success despite the odds. It’s part celebration, part motivation.
“So many incredible individuals have emerged from this city, but they don’t always get the spotlight they deserve,” said BOY NBN.
While the podcast focuses on interviewing influential figures from Newcastle, it also explores trending topics.
Looking ahead, the team hopes to welcome some of Newcastle’s most well-known names to the show including Mayor Xolani Dube, celebrities Khosi Thwala and Anele Zondo, and fellow podcaster, Penual Mlotshwa.
To the youth of Newcastle, their message is clear; never give up on your dreams.
“Never sleep on your potential. Look at us; we are just passionate individuals who believe in our vision. If we can do it, so can you.”
