Weather warning: Damaging winds expected to hit NKZN on Thursday

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Level 2 impact-based warning for damaging winds across parts of north-western KwaZulu-Natal for Thursday, June 26 between 00:00 to 23:59.
The warning applies to the following areas:
- Abaqulusi,
- Alfred Duma,
- Indaka,
- Ladysmith,
- Dannhauser,
- eDumbe,
- eMadlangeni,
- Endumeni,
- Inkosi Langalibalele (Escourt and Sobabili),
- Msinga
- Newcastle,
- Nquthu and
- Okhahlamba.
Furthermore, SAWS said the cold front moving across KwaZulu-Natal, followed by the strengthening high-pressure system, would lead to strong winds averaging around 30km/h, with gusts of up to 50km/h in the affected areas.
The following impacts are possible:
- Localised damage to both formal and informal settlements
- Localised loss of agricultural production
- Fallen trees or wind-blown debris affecting roads and transport services
- Disruption to road, rail and air travel
Residents are advised to exercise caution, secure loose objects, and avoid unnecessary travel in high-risk areas.
Motorists should remain alert for falling branches or obstacles on the roads.
