CRIME: End of relationship sparks violent attack in Madadeni

A 53-year-old man has been jailed for raping a former partner, following a successful police investigation in Madadeni.

The Madadeni Regional Court has jailed a 53-year-old man to 10 years’ after he was found guilty of raping a 34-year-old woman in March 2024. The court also ruled him unfit to possess a firearm.

According to police reports, the victim had recently ended a relationship with the accused, which allegedly provoked his violent actions. On March 22, 2024, the man verbally abused her before raping her.

Lieutenant Colonel SL Chapi, Commander of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), praised the investigative work of Sergeant Mthimkhulu, who was instrumental in building a strong case that led to the successful conviction.

“This outcome demonstrates the South African Police Service’s unwavering commitment to protecting our communities and ensuring justice is served,” said Lt Col Chapi.
