Runners and walkers to unite for Memel to Newcastle

The Champ Group is set to bring communities together for the 51.7 km Memel to Newcastle Walk/Run on September 24.

The annual Tiger Wheel & Tyre Memel to Newcastle Walk/Run is scheduled for Heritage Day, September 24.

Organised by The Champ Group of Companies, this much-anticipated event will welcome up to 1,500 participants, uniting communities in celebration of South Africa’s heritage.

The 51.7 km route starts in Memel, Free State, and ends in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal.

The event was first held in 1994 when eleven students and three teachers from Amajuba High School began what has now become a cherished annual tradition.

Participants may choose from four categories:

  • 51.7 km Individual Run
  • 51.7 km Individual Walk
  • 51.7 km Team Run
  • 51.7 km Team Walk

Teams consist of five members. The first four athletes each complete a 5 km segment, and the final team member completes the remaining 6.7 km.

The team format provides an ideal opportunity for corporate, school, or institutional team-building.

aQuellé is the official refreshment sponsor and will ensure hydration is available throughout the course.

Companies and organisations are encouraged to sponsor Water Tables to support athletes and boost team visibility.

Tiger Wheel & Tyre Newcastle proudly returns as the main sponsor for 2025.

All finishers will receive commemorative medals in recognition of their achievement.

The event is hosted in collaboration with the Newcastle City Athletic Club.

Event and Water Table registrations are now open at www.memelwalk.co.za.
