Learners encouraged to aim higher during Pastor Zondo’s visit
Pastor Sthembiso Zondo motivates AbaQulusi learners to study hard and believe in success.
An initiative to support and encourage learners was recently conducted by a well-known motivational speaker, Pastor Sthembiso Zondo, in partnership with AbaQulusi Local Municipality.
The educational drive saw Zondo visiting various local schools alongside Department of Education officials and Vezi Mhlungu, with the aim of giving learners faith and hope as they prepare for their final exams. It was also aimed at fostering a culture of learning and achievement among young people, as well as ensuring that they are ‘armed’ with the encouragement needed to succeed in their educational pursuits. Both primary and high schools were visited.
Zondo shared his life experiences and background when he was still at school. He explained that he did not come from a good background, as they were poor at his home. He failed Grade 11, but what helped him achieve distinctions in Grade 12 was the ‘giraffe principle’ which states: “If I can reach where nobody can reach, I will grow like nobody else.” He says he changed his behaviour by choosing friends who were doing well at school. Every day he was determined to reach where nobody could reach – studying often, practicing mathematics from various question papers, and spending more time at the library than with friends. Zondo urged the learners to reach their highest potential, as they are the ones who can change their home situation, no matter what their background is.
A matric prayer was then held at the Cecil Emmett Hall with pastors, officials from various departments and organisations, as well as learners and teachers. They prayed for God’s grace, and for more distinctions in the municipality and the district at large.
