Police recover body in river: foul play suspected

The cause of death is being investigated.

Police have opened an inquest after a man’s body was discovered in the river close to Princess Park yesterday afternoon (November 26).

At this stage, the deceased has not yet been identified.

A body was found floating in the river near Princess Park in Estcourt today (November 26). Police, rescue teams and divers responded swiftly to the scene. According to officials, the body was noticed by a passer-by walking near the riverbank.

Police confirmed that the cause of death is still unknown, and a full investigation has been launched. “It appears that the individual may have been assaulted before being thrown into the river, possibly with the intention of allowing the water to wash the body away, as we can see visible bruises,” an official said.

The deceased has been removed from the scene by forensic services for further examination.
