Foundation rebuilds Kwamdakane family home

Community partnership restored the safety and dignity for a Kwamdakane family. Read more here:

A Kwamdakane family has been given a second chance at life after their unsafe home was rebuilt through a partnership between the Nyatee Foundation, the South African Police Service and the Community Policing Forum.

Pascal Grey, a founding member of the Nyatee Foundation, said the initiative began when community members discovered a house in the Kwamdakane area that was on the verge of collapse. The structure had cracked walls, a damaged roof and unsafe living conditions.

“Despite these hardships, the family’s resilience and hope inspired us to act,” said Grey.

With the support of community members, organisations and partners, the group worked together to rebuild the home. The result is a safe, warm and dignified space where the family can start anew.

The much-anticipated handover

On December 26, Grey said they celebrated an important milestone in the community’s journey of hope and renewal. Under the banner of Asakhe Sonke, the newly reconstructed home was officially handed over to the family of 10.

“The handover underscores our shared commitment to building stronger, safer communities,” he said. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved for making this project a success.”

Grey concluded that the project showed what could be achieved through cooperation and compassion.

“Together, through Asakhe Sonke, we demonstrate that with determination, partnership and care, we can transform lives and create lasting change,” Grey concluded.
