Water protest blocks Dannhauser–Newcastle road as tensions escalate
Residents block the Dannhauser–Newcastle road as a water protest enters its third month and motorists face danger.
Protests are continuing this morning on the Dannhauser/Newcastle road near Skoperain.
Large rocks and burning tyres are blocking the route as residents step up the protest against the lack of water in the aera which they say has been ongoing for three months.
The protest action started on Monday, February 9, forcing motorists to use the N11 via Sunset Rest to travel from the Dundee area to Newcastle.

It is not clear if the Amajuba District Municipality has responded to the protest.
Farzanah Dookie, of the Dannhauser Helping Hands, said there had been a similar situation in some parts of Dannhauser where residents are reliant on water tankers. This service also stopped for some days but after she had called the District Municipality, the service resumed.
