Water leak puts pressure on Glencoe’s fragile supply

A major water leak in Valley View has residents urging urgent repairs to prevent further strain on Glencoe’s fragile supply.

A massive water leak in the Valley View area of Glencoe is placing further strain on the community’s already fragile water supply.

Residents who spoke to the Courier believe the leak may have started on Saturday. The damaged pipe, which runs across an overgrown field, has caused large pools of water to form in the area.

“A tractor was sent out to cut the grass, and after that, we noticed that the pipe was really running,” said one resident.

Chairperson of the Endumeni Residents’ Association, Willie Steenberg, said he had contacted Umzinyathi District Municipality twice to request that the pipe be repaired.

“Apparently, there had been a challenge with materials, but hopefully they will carry out urgent repairs today,” he said.

“We cannot waste our precious water.”
