Two suspects were arrested after police allegedly found a substantial quantity of drugs, an unlicensed firearm and ammunition during an operation in the Nquthu CBD on Sunday.

According to SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Siyabonga Nkwanyana, members of the Nquthu SAPS Task Team conducted the operation after receiving information that premises in the CBD were allegedly being used for the sale of drugs.

The members tactically approached the identified premises and conducted a search.

During the operation, two suspects, aged 25 and 32, were arrested after they were allegedly found in possession of 125 Mandrax tablets, 246 capsules of Whoonga and 66 small bags containing suspected crystal meth.

Firearm will undergo ballistic examination

Police also allegedly found an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in the possession of one of the suspects. The firearm and ammunition were confiscated.

Nkwanyana said the firearm will undergo ballistic examination to establish whether it may have been used in the commission of other criminal offences.

The two suspects are expected to appear before the Nquthu Magistrates’ Court soon, where they will face charges relating to the possession of drugs, as well as the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
