Isandlwana Primary launches donation drive for vulnerable learners
Isandlwana Primary School is calling on residents, businesses and organisations to help vulnerable learners by donating school essentials.
Isandlwana Primary School, near the world-famous battlefield, is asking the community, businesses, and organisations to support vulnerable learners through a donation drive to ensure every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
The initiative is being led by the school’s Youth Citizen Action Programme (YCAP) Team 2026, which is encouraging members of the public to donate essential items that many learners struggle to afford.
YCAP mentor Ntombi Ngcobo said many children come from disadvantaged backgrounds and face daily challenges due to a lack of necessities such as school uniforms, shoes, stationery and food.
School appeals for essentials to support vulnerable learners
“Under the campaign theme ‘Helping Vulnerable Learners’, the YCAP team hopes to restore dignity and improve the educational experience of learners by providing practical support to those who need it most,” she told the Courier.
The school is requesting donations of:
– School uniforms;
– School shoes;
– Stationery, including pens, pencils, crayons and glue sticks;
– Non-perishable food parcels;
– Toiletries;
– Toys and other useful household items;
– Financial contributions.
YCAP team calls on community to help restore dignity and hope
“Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow and dream,” the campaign states, adding that even the smallest donation can make a meaningful difference in a learner’s life.
The school believes that community support will not only ease the burden on struggling families, but also help learners participate fully in school activities with confidence and dignity.

The project forms part of YCAP, a national initiative of the Empowervate Trust. Since 2009, YCAP has been implemented in schools across South Africa in partnership with the Department of Basic Education, encouraging young people to become active citizens while making a positive impact in their communities.
Ngcobo said they hope the donation drive will inspire residents, businesses and community organisations to join hands in giving vulnerable learners hope for a brighter future.
