After years of planning, delays and construction, the R150-million Paradigm uMzinyathi Private Hospital in Glencoe is nearing completion and is expected to open in the first quarter of next year, subject to outstanding municipal and licensing requirements.

Developer Steven Pillay said construction is in its final stages, with imported medical equipment already arriving and being installed. The 100-bed facility will include general and surgical wards, three operating theatres, a maternity unit, ICU, paediatric wards, X-ray and dialysis facilities, pathology laboratories and doctors’ consulting rooms.

A job creation boost for the area

Designed with patient comfort and privacy in mind, the hospital will also feature landscaped gardens, family relaxation areas, ward kitchens and a coffee shop. The development is expected to create about 350 jobs, with future plans for a step-down facility and rehabilitation centre.

However, municipal challenges remain, including the need to upgrade the electricity supply and resurface the deteriorated access road. Ward 7 Councillor Saleem Abdool said the municipality was committed to resolving the issues.

Once operational, the hospital is expected to bring specialist healthcare services closer to residents across the greater Endumeni area and reduce the need for long-distance travel for medical treatment.
