Several areas affected

According to AbaQulusi Local Municipality, the theft has affected electricity supply to Bree Street, High Street, President Street, Small Street, Deputasie Street and surrounding areas.

Municipal technicians have assessed the damage and are working on repairs.

Power expected to return by 13:00

Electricity supply is expected to be restored by 13:00 today, although the municipality warned that the restoration time could change depending on the extent of the damage and the progress of the repairs.

Residents urged to take precautions

Residents are urged to treat all electrical connections, appliances and installations as live while the supply is interrupted.

Electricity could be restored without warning once repairs have been completed.
