Sibongile residents warned about ‘bogus’ Farm Doctor meeting
Residents are being warned about a meeting allegedly being called in connection with the Farm Doctor claim.
The committee representing Sibongile residents on matters relating to the Farm Doctor claim has warned residents about a meeting allegedly scheduled for October 11 at Rhodesia Park.
Committee member Vusa Mthembu said the committee had been informed that a group was calling the meeting.
He stressed that the meeting had not been called by the committee elected by the community to represent residents on the Farm Doctor claim.
“We wish to make everybody aware that such a meeting is not called by us,” Mthembu said.
He said residents were familiar with the committee’s usual process for calling meetings and communicating the venue to the community.
The committee issued the warning to prevent confusion among residents and urged them to establish who had called any meeting before attending.
Farm Doctor relates to the forced removal of residents in the 1960s in terms of the then Group Areas Act to Sibongile and the outstanding compensation which the committee says is still owed to those affected and their relatives.
