Young student wins first place in district visual arts competition
Athenkosi Ndabeni has brought honour to his school by taking first place in the Amajuba district in the 2023 Netball World Cup visual arts school competition
The Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture, the Sports Federation, and KZN Netball collaborated to require learners to draw a picture of the official Netball World Cup mascot “Letsatsi” as a creative arts idea and to get the children interested and involved in the World Cup.
The 12-year-old student from Simanganyawo primary school, which is located just outside of Osizweni, has made his principal and teachers very proud, and he has served as an inspiration to other students to work hard in everything they do.
Athenkosi possesses a talent for drawing that belies his youth. His teachers noticed his talent for drawing and encouraged him to compete.
“Other learners are inspired, he has become somewhat of a role model, and he personally is proud of his achievement, proudly wearing his t-shirt that he received for winning every Friday,” his teacher Mrs.Mtshali went on to say.
