It’s been an exciting week for Vryheid High School (VHS), with learners shining both on and off the sports fields. Here’s a roundup of the key highlights:

Interact Badminton Tournament

The Interact Club hosted a thrilling badminton tournament on Saturday. The participants showcased their skills, agility and teamwork, making it a spirited start to the month. The event was a resounding success, with learners and supporters alike enjoying a day of competitive fun. Well done to all who took part!

The winter sports season officially began, with VHS facing off against Amajuba in a series of matches. Rugby, netball and hockey teams put up an impressive fight. VHS is also proud of its cheerleaders’ performance on the day.

The results reflect the dedication and talent of the athletes, as they kicked off the season with promise and pride. Congratulations to all the players, coaches and supporters who made this past week a memorable one!

Chess:
VHS won 8-3.

Netball:

1st team won 50-8;

2nd team drew 3-3;

U/14 and U/15 mixed team won 12-1.

Hockey:

U/16 girls won 3-0;

2nd team boys lost 0-2.

Rugby:

U/15 won 68-0;

U/16 won 24-15.

The first team hockey boys took part in the St Dom’s hockey tournament and the results were as follows:

– VHS drew 0-0 vs St Doms;

– VHS lost 0-1 vs Ladysmith;

– VHS lost 1-2 vs Ferrum;

VHS learners also participated in the NKZN Karate Championships in Newcastle. The team returned with an impressive haul of medals, with all participants qualifying for the South African National Karate Championships, scheduled to take place in Johannesburg on May 22 and 23.

The VHS learners who excelled in the karate championships are: Ayanda Ndlovu, Lwazi Mlotshwa, Emma Mattison, Mianke Erasmus and Clarisha James.

These learners will form part of the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) team at the national championships.

Congratulations to all VHS learners who participated in these competitions, demonstrating their skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. VHS wishes the karate team all the best as they prepare to represent KZN at the national championships in May.
