Newcastle bowlers dominate Northern Zone Veteran fours

Last weekend, five men’s and three women’s veteran teams gathered at Volksrust Bowling Club to compete in the Northern Zone’s veteran fours competition.
The home club’s team of Kate Osborne, M.Pretorius, A.Coetzer, and V.Bronkhorst won the ladies title, with Dundee’s Hannelie Arndt, Essie Slabbert, Sheryl Hesom, and Dora Joubert finishing second.
The men’s section was the most competitive, with some outstanding bowls being played.
With all teams playing each other in a round robin format, the Newcastle team of Sid Price, Koen Pretorius, Fritz Botha, and Monty Steele won the trophy, followed by their clubmates John and Trevor Douthwaite, Shane Noble, and James Dlamini.
