A tapestry of soccer kits, cheers and goals filled the Paradise Sport Grounds this past Saturday when the Dr Wesley Maistry Foundation (WMF) hosted its annual soccer tournament.

This event is hosted to uplift the youth and community of Newcastle.

Over 35 teams entered, with prizes totalling over R20 000 up for grabs.

The Foundation was established in 2021 following the passing of Dr Wesley Maistry on January 21, 2021, to honour his memory and continue his legacy as a humanitarian and passionate soccer supporter.

Since its inception, the foundation has made a meaningful impact in the Newcastle community — providing assistance to those in need through initiatives such as food hampers, winter blankets, and flood relief efforts, including clean-up operations after recent storms.

The Foundation holds monthly clothing and meal drives and in winter, a blanket drive.

In addition, the Foundation renovated two dilapidated homes, restoring dignity and comfort to their occupants.

Congratulations to the winning team, who received R 5000 and a full 15-piece kit worth of R 3000:

• U12 – Impuphu Warriors,
• U14– Ababeel FC,
• U16 – Impuphu Newcastle FC (B),
• Over 35 – Dundee United
• Open Division – City of Refuge.
