The Newcastle Model Aircraft Club (NMAC) hosted the Rand Model Aircraft Club (RMAC) at the Newcastle Airport this past weekend (November 21-22), where pilots flew an impressive range of nitro, petrol and battery-powered aircraft.
The two-day gathering offered a relaxed, social interclub visit featuring some of the country’s top RC pilots, who displayed their skills with large-scale model aircraft and high-performance jets.
NMAC chairperson, Trevor Wolfaardt, explained that the aim of the fly-in was to encourage social interaction; giving model aircraft pilots the chance to exchange ideas and support one another.
Members from both clubs also used the event not only to socialise, but also to practise the technical manoeuvre sequences required for national and even international competitions.
The weekend was said to provide a welcome boost for Newcastle tourism, drawing a significant number of visitors to the town.
