Klipbank teams claim KZNCB fours titles
Klipbank bowlers secure district honours in Ladysmith
The Klipbank Bowling Club in Ladysmith hosted the KZNCB fours playoffs last weekend, with all three zone winners and runners-up vying for the District title.
The ladies’ event was won by Barbara Baleri’s Klipbank team (12 + 36), followed by Elsie de Jager, Jo-Ann Conolly, Yvonne Stuart, and Taryn Bierbaum (Dundee 9 + 28), and in third spot were Newcastle’s Alice Howe, Joan Schoon, Sue Hutchinson, and Edith Pretorius (9 – 1).
Richards Bay edge Newcastle in men’s section
The men’s section also went down to the last head, with Gerhard Duvenage’s Richard Bay’s team finishing first (9 + 10), just pipping Newcastle’s team of John and Trevor Douthwaite, Bennie van Vuuren, and Chris White (9 + 9), with Piet Bester’s Empangeni team in third place (9 – 3).
The KZNCB under-35 team participated in the South African U-35 Inter District competition in Welkom last week with Newcastle’s Brandon Delport, a valued team member.
After being in contention for most of the tournament, they finished a creditable 4th place in their section and 13th out of the 39 teams competing.
On the local front, the Newcastle Bowling Club hosted a tabs-in competition on Heritage Day, which was won by Trevor Douthwaite and John Bain.
