VRYHEID Athletics Club would like to thank our main sponsor, Stegen’s/BP Garage for the generous contribution towards the 2014 Comrades Marathon.
Although the event has come and gone, the runners and committee members who went as supporters to the race are still wearing their T shirts with pride.

Remember, runners are still meeting at Stegen’s Garage in the early mornings, despite the cold and dark. This is just an example of the dedication from VAC members.

VAC athletes are on the go globally. In June some members were off to the Transkei, participating in their annual hike along the Wild Coast with breathtaking views and wild stories to tell – a wonderful experience.

Thanks to Carla and Daylene who organized a successful World Cup soccer evening as our June time trial theme. Although we were not in Brazil in body, we were definitely there in spirit – party spirit.

On Sunday, July 6, Cathy Sandalls walked the early 7:00am start of the Forest Hills race in very chilly weather in one of her best times (1h17).

Winter does not keep some athletes down. Well done to Cathy and Ellen, who brave the winter mornings to walk at 5:00am with headlamps and beanies.

Upcoming events to mark on your calendar:
Sunday, August 24: Ladies’ Spar 5km and 10km race run/walk, a good goal to work towards for those who are wanting to get off the couch and start exercising before the Spring and Summer frenzy starts.
On Saturday, August 30, the MeatMasters run/walk and cycle will be hosted by the Vryheid Athletics Club.
