Golfers show support for animals

Ladysmith Country Club members turned up on Saturday to support the fund-raising efforts of the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL), and at the same time enjoy a round of golf and a game of bowls.
After the terrible winds we experienced on Thursday and Friday, it was a pleasure to be blessed with such wonderful weather on the weekend. The golf course is now truly in winter condition with dry fairways, very fast ‘browns’ and the dreaded cracks appearing everywhere. Conditions are the same for all and hopefully it will not be too long before the spring rains arrive to soften the course.
The AACL golf competition was played as a 4-Ball Better-Ball Stableford event and the winners, on a fine score of 45 points, were Phillip Boardman and Mike Attwell.
Runners-up with 44 points were Andrea Sirchia and Trevor Jacobs on a count-out from Aurette and Gerald Boardman and from Wayne Bentley and Enrico Bozza. ‘Nearest the Pin’ winners were Steve Lotter and Mike Attwell, with Andrew Bouwer taking the prize for being closest to the kennel on the first fairway.
Andrew is quite accustomed to being in the dog-box, so he felt quite at home with this prize. Steve Lotter, Mike Attwell and Themba Ntuli carded two-clubs.

Thanks to the hardworking members of the AACL for their efforts in raising much-needed funds to support the animals in need. At the same time, we must thank the golf and bowling members for their turnout, support and contributions to this worthy fund-raising event.
The Ladysmith Country Club league teams played on Sunday, with the result that the ‘A’ team won 14-4, the ‘B’ team won 11-7, and the ‘Frog’ team lost 0-4.
The sixth round of the Mortimer Toyota League takes place on Sunday, July 27, and team captains are reminded that there will not be a ‘shotgun start’, but all teams are to tee off from No. 1 as follows:
8am – Team Golf vs The Bullets; 8.20am – Mortimer Toyota vs Scorpions; 8.40am – Four Must Get Beers vs Fat Bastards; 9am – Neal’s Tyres vs Nambiti Plumbers; 9.20am – Rough Riders vs Boardman’s Nationals.
A reminder to all our Sunday social golfers that the course will be closed for casual golf until the last league four-ball has completed the 12th hole, which will be at about 12.45pm.
Wednesday, July 30, is the FNB Insurance Brokers sponsored ‘Skaapdag’.
The Friday evening ‘100 Club’ draw was won by Dolf Pollard, who was not present, so this Friday we have a good carry-over for some member to scoop.
