Angling Professional League

Much interest has been generated with the formation of the Angling Professional League (APL).

Interested anglers need not join as a club, but as individuals. The membership fee is R100 for the season. In addition, members will be granted the privilege of booking at Sandford (Islands) or Richgate Park to fish socially.

All anglers who join the APL will be put into a pool where members will be allocated into one of the four teams for the purposes of competition. This will allow for integration with members fishing with one and another from different clubs and organisations. It will enable sharing of the wealth of experience, skills and knowledge as well as encourage members to work as a team, indirectly creating a spirit of camaraderie and competition.

A special meeting will be held prior to October 15 to discuss the composition of the teams, as well as the appointment of captains, vice captains and record clerks for each team.

The Governing Body to administer the affairs of the APL include Matthew Shunmugam (President); Terrence Chetty (Vice President); Kidd Rampersadh (Treasurer); Vicky Bhooli (Secretary); Anil Boodhoo (Record Clerk); Ajen Goli (PRO); Monty Slabbert (Captain) and Prenesh Pandoy (Vice Captain). Other members will be elected to the controlling body should the need arise.

APL begins with its first competition, Champion of Champions, on August 3 at Richgate Park in Zones 2 or 4, which will give the management committee a benchmark to form the proposed teams.

The first league will take place on October 19 at Sandford from Zones A to E.

Anglers are at liberty to fish anywhere in these zones.
